TOLM Group partnered with the City of Conway to transform a former industrial scrapyard and flood-prone property into Martin Luther King Jr. Square Park, a community green space designed to improve stormwater management while creating a cultural and recreational asset for downtown Conway.
The project involved extensive site preparation, including the removal of buried scrap materials, clearing of existing vegetation, and significant earthwork to prepare the property for new landscaping and stormwater infrastructure. TOLM incorporated sustainable drainage solutions, including infiltration basins, rain gardens, bioswales, porous pavers, vegetated walls, and permeable hardscapes. These features were designed to capture, filter, and absorb stormwater runoff, helping reduce flooding and improve water quality in the surrounding downtown area.
Working within an active urban environment required careful coordination with city officials, the design team, and neighboring properties to manage equipment deliveries, site access, and public safety. Weather conditions and material availability also presented scheduling challenges. Through proactive planning, flexible construction sequencing, and dedicated field efforts, TOLM successfully completed the project within the established timeline.
The completed park transformed an underutilized, environmentally challenged property into a welcoming public space that combines green infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and community development. Martin Luther King Jr. Square Park now serves as both a stormwater management resource and a lasting community asset, demonstrating TOLM’s ability to deliver infrastructure improvements that enhance the communities they serve.
